The Youth Services Department provides a wide range of materials and services for parents and teachers to support learning in the home, classroom, or education profession. We are dedicated to providing quality, accurate and timely materials and services to all. Our qualified staff is ready to assist you with book selection, teacher collections, and general information of any kind.
Materials Services Programs & Events Contacts
Materials In the Parent/Teacher Area, we offer a variety of materials helpful to those who work and live with children:
- Materials on Child Development
- Health Resources
- Activity ideas for classrooms/daycares
- Picture Books on difficult issues (death, etc.)
- Storytime Kits for preschoolers and babies/toddlers
- Magazines
- Big Books
Much of our Parent/Teacher Collection was developed with the support and input of the Childcare Network, Help me Grow, the Union County Health Department and the Memorial Hospital of Union County.
Services For teachers, we offer the following services:
- Teacher Cards
- Available to any public, private, or parochial school, preschool, day care center, or registered home school teacher.
- No fines for overdue items
- For classroom and professional materials only
- Teachers are financially responsible for any lost or damaged materials checked out on a teacher card
- Please fill out a Teacher Card Application and bring back to library with current ID
- Teacher Collection Requests
- Youth Services staff will select and compile collections for teachers
- Teachers may request up to 30 items at a time on any specific topic or theme
- A minimum of 14 days advance notice is requested.
- Please fill out a Teacher Collection Request Form and e-mail or fax to Youth Services Department,
- Assignment Notification
- Teachers have the opportunity to alert library staff to upcoming assignments that students will be researching. Your notification will allow us to serve your students better and purchase more appropriate materials.

Programs and Events The Library offers a variety of programs for groups of youth:
- Classroom Visits
- Youth Services staff can visit your classroom to provide book talks, online research instruction, reader's theater, storytimes, and other great programs that fit your needs.

- Library Tours and Visits
- Teachers are welcome to bring classes to the library for tours, storytimes, research help, computer instruction, and other programs.
